The First Baptist Church of Polk City actually began in the summer of 1925 as
a Mission of First Baptist Church of Auburndale, under the leadership of Rev.
JR Wells. The first services were held under a palmetto brush arbor at
the corner of First Street and Central Ave. in Oakridge Heights.

Mr. ZH Roughton offered the porch of his Real Estate Office in Orkridge
Heights for Revival Services. He later donated property to build the first
church - a wooden-frame building - in 1926 named Oakridge Baptist
Church. Rev. Will E. Cooper was the first pastor.

In the spring of 1939 Oakridge Baptist Church changed its name to Polk City
Baptist Church. The building was also moved to its present location in Polk
City.

The new sanctuary (the present building) was built in 1965.

God has greatly blessed First Baptist Church of Polk City, so starting in 2009,
the church will once more build and expand its ministries to accommodate the
growth of our membership.
